The women in crypto showed up big at the SheFi Summit Denver, and we loved to see it. You know how crypto does—conference season is in full swing, with ETHDenver just wrapping up and the hype for DevCon Argentina already building.
Meanwhile, today’s Crypto Summit at the White House is set to shape U.S. policy with global ripple effects. No matter where you stand on government involvement, it’s sure to spark debate.
And as Ramadan begins, it’s not just a time for fasting and prayers but also for giving. If you’re looking to donate, The Giving Block makes it easy to give Zakat in crypto. Need guidance? Here’s how to calculate and give Zakat with crypto.

📚 What We’re Thinking About
🗽 The White House Crypto Summit
It’s happening today (Friday, March 7, from 1:30-5:30 ET). Everyone’s talking about who’s going (@MilkRoadDaily, Cointelegraph). And who isn’t (TheStreet). Can we even know for sure? Will Vitalik be there? Everyone wants to be in the room where it’s happening. We’re still waiting for our invite to arrive, but if there’s anything this administration has shown us, expect surprises and expect the market to move one way or another.
The big thing everyone is hoping for is someclarityon theUS crypto reservethat Trump cryptically posted about over the weekend (Blockworks, CryptoSlate).Surprise! That clarity arrived last night with an unexpected executive order…
💰 The US Crypto Reserve
Last night, after we thought we were done with the newsletter for the week, Trump signed an executive order to establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a stockpile of other digital assets… the catch? It’ll be made up of “cryptocurrency the government already owns through criminal or civil asset forfeiture proceedings.” (Reuters, Unchained). So nothing new. This, notably, comes less than 24hrs ahead of the much-hyped Crypto Summit, although TBD what to expect from that now?? As of writing this, its only been a few hours since the news broke, but so far the vibes are off and markets are down (@GwartyGwart, CNBC).
Here’s the background: On Sunday, after reportedly zero discussion with anyone in the industry or DC insiders, President Trump announced via his Truth Social network the creation of a US crypto reserve (@CryptoSlate, Unchained, CoinDesk). But the tokens he listed for inclusion had even some of the President’s biggest supporters scratching their heads (@brian_armstrong). Ripple? (CryptoSlate). How? (Unchained). The OG post didn’t even mention Ethereum or Bitcoin. Again, we can’t emphasize enough how much Trump’s own crypto people were like “What?” just as much as the rest of us (Forbes). Within hours, the President followed up on his first post to clarify that *of course* ETH and BTC would be there, presumably a response to the overall confusion of literally everyone.
Even with last night’s executive order, there are still big questions at the core of this. Is the Inside Circle profiting, and is that ethical (TheStreet)? And does championing government involvement at this level essentially take crypto away from its founding values, which have traditionally leaned more libertarian? The founder of Solana, which was included on The List, thinks so (Decrypt). Is it hypocritical for the Bitcoin maxis to celebrate this (CoinDesk)? Even if you’ve never touched crypto in your life (bless you for reading our newsletter), this is the kind of financial news that will have global implications (CoinDesk). [Adjacent to all of this talk about crypto, government, and ethics, there’s a TRUMP metaverse apparently coming too] (The Block, The Defiant).
📱 The People’s Bid for TikTok
Alexis Ohanian (the co-founder of Reddit) joined it earlier this week, tweeting about bringing the network “on chain” (sic) (@alexisohanian, Reuters). A reminder, The People’s Bid for TikTok is a movement started by Frank McCourt’s Project Liberty Institute to purchase TikTok after then-President Joe Biden announced last year the company must be sold or shut down (The People’s Bid). While the announcement has brought a lot of positive attention to the project, every time we see media outlets cover it with headlines that don’t even mention PL — like Alexis wants to personally buy it or he’s teaming up with Frank minus PL or PL is a new thing — we want to scream. Project Liberty has been working on this since last year. The lack of depth in this (albeit, not that life changing) coverage is alarming. What happened to media that went deep? The full story here was always just a few clicks (and a few more seconds of attention) away. That being said, a personal shill for us: we’ve been talking about the People’s Bid for Tiktok since last year, and we’ll continue to cover any updates.
🪙 Memecoins
The SEC said they’re NOT securities (The Defiant). They’re shaping up to be a big deal for 2025. No surprises from us (CryptoAltruism). Even mainstream media is starting to pay attention and help us understand (NPR Planet Money). Should those who want to use crypto for good jump on the bandwagon or avoid at all costs? (CARBON Copy).
