This Week in Web3ForGood
🌍 A conversation with Jessica Gaubert of impactMarket + more on play-to-earn, a White House Blockchain adviser, NFTs for Myanmar, and jobs, jobs, jobs.
It’s truly been a ReFi summer and it’s still going strong, which is just what we like to see at Web3ForGood. With the current state of the economy, it’s exciting to see that passion has not taken a hit, and projects just keep growing - we have more to share with you each week!
We know a lot of our readers come for the social impact space and are looking to learn more about web3 so, it was great to have the opportunity to talk to Jessica Gaubert, the COO of impactMarket about her journey into this space. ImpactMarket is a project we have been following for quite some time - it enables any vulnerable community to implement poverty alleviation mechanisms, like Unconditional Basic Income.
Our key takeaways from Jessica about foraying into Web3:
You can’t learn everything so pick the things you care about and deep dive into them to start with;
Find a buddy, find someone who is familiar with this space, who can guide you through things like setting up a wallet and can answer your questions as you go further down the rabbit holes.
Read the full conversation to learn more about Jessica’s experience and the great work being done by impactMarket.
Also this week: Gitcoin Grants Round 15 announced, FC Barcelona (yes, the football/soccer club) is using web3 tech to vote, CNN’s web3 project, and SO MANY JOBS.

🌊 Transitioning from Social Impact to Web3 — A Conversation with Jessica Gaubert of impactMarket
At Web3forGood, we are big fans of universal basic income (UBI) and how blockchain can make it a reality in a way that was not possible before. To share from our old piece, UBI is an income redistribution measure that has recently garnered more attention in the US (largely due to the campaign of former US presidential candidate Andrew Yang, who brought the concept outside of academia and into the mainstream).
The development of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies could potentially facilitate the implementation of UBI in a global, efficient, transparent, and decentralized manner. As blockchain removes the need for intermediaries, this saves time and cost and also speeds up the process. Smart contracts could also enable automation, meaning that a certain amount of money could be disbursed at any chosen interval — ensuring that each individual gets their allotted amount, while maintaining an immutable paper trail resulting in greater public accountability.
To dive deeper into UBI, we talked to Jessica Guabert of impactMarket, a decentralized protocol that enables vulnerable communities to implement poverty alleviation mechanisms such as UBI. ImpactMarket’s goal is to become one of the main contributors to eradicating extreme poverty by 2030. Like many Web3ForGood readers, Jessica comes from a traditional social impact background and now finds herself deep into web3.
Read on to learn more about her journey into Web3 and the great work impactMarket is doing.
