Earlier this week, we wondered out loud to each other whether things were slowing down as the end of the year approaches. Nope. At least not for the people who are building and thinking about Web3forGood - like Isabel Doonan and Claire Grunewald, co-founders of Sacreage, which is a “one-stop shop for crypto philanthropy designed to attract millennial and Gen Z consumers.” Isabel and Claire were kind enough to share their story with us, including details of their recent pivot; read it all below.

🌊Sacreage Connects Nonprofits to Millennials and Gen Z with Seamless, Intentional Design

When Isabel Doonan and Claire Grunewald launched Sacreage in 2021, their initial goal was to bring land conservation contracts on-chain. The pair, who both have full time jobs outside of Web3, had recently fallen down the Web3 rabbit hole and immediately recognized there was an opportunity to support conservation organizations and native populations across the US using Web3 tech. As their research progressed, though, they realized the root of the problem went even deeper — and so they pivoted, turning their focus instead to that root cause.

Today, Sacreage is a one-stop shop for crypto philanthropy designed to attract millennial and Gen Z consumers. It exists to empower the nonprofits already on the ground, who know their communities, and who have been doing work for years by connecting them with the funds they desperately need to continue doing their important work.

“We realized that there is already a lot of great work being done for land conservation, but it just doesn’t have the funding,” explains Claire. “For us, being in a Web3 environment where there is a lot of funding, we saw an opportunity to connect that funding to these projects and others. It may not be as direct as the cause we were initially drawn to, but it’s a solution that will help these organizations now and down the road.”

Web3forGood spoke with both Claire (COO) and Isabel (CEO) to learn more about what makes Sacreage’s platform unique, why the team pivoted from on-chain land conservation to charity, their advice for Web3 builders, and their vision for how Web3 tech can be used for good.
