gm gm,
Crypto prices are dropping, but so are the SEC lawsuits—so what does that mean for the future of Web3? The wild swings of this space have always kept us on our toes, but beyond the market drama, there's a deeper question: how do we keep building Web3 for good? From decentralized social networks to financial inclusion, privacy tech, and community-led funding, the opportunities to reshape the internet for impact are bigger than ever.
Let’s cut through the noise and focus on what really matters.
WAGMI (we are going to make an impact!)
P.S. Happy ETHDenver week to all who celebrate. Someone tell us how Schelling Point went. We have FOMO.

📚 What We’re Thinking About
🪙 Stablecoins:
They took center stage at the Senate's First Digital Assets Subcommittee Hearing. (CoinDesk). All over the world, policymakers are rushing to keep up. (The Economist). Kraken might make their own, after preparing to withdraw USDT from Europe in response to the MiCA law (“a strategic move that could reshape the stablecoin market and challenge Tether’s hegemony” (CoinTribune). Bank of America wants to make BofA Coin. Meanwhile, in the US, the CEO of Circle (a US company and issuer of USDC) wants US dollar-pegged stablecoins to be registered in the US (CryptoSlate). Um, regulatory capture much? (@pythianism)
👾 The Bybit Hack:
Last weekend, a group of hackers stole $1.4 billion of Ethereum from a Bybit cold wallet (yes, billion with a “b”) - the biggest crypt hack ever (BBC). The FBI has already linked it to North Korea (no surprise, for people familiar with the space). (CryptoSlate). The whole thing has brought up a lot of questions about security and fault, (Eliézer Ndinga) and some builders are already thinking about what they can do about it (The Block). There’s a 10% bounty for help tracing and returning the stolen funds (Tech Crunch). It’s like Crypto the Game IRL. Can the chronically-online crypto community come together and do what it does best?
🔗 Elon Musk’s plan to run the government on blockchain:
Insane? Efficient? Transparent? At the very least, Musk could learn a lot from the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI), a public, permissioned blockchain network built on Hyperledger BESU. Still, though “Blockchain technology has the potential to improve government operations through the application of its core strengths of immutability, transparency and decentralized verification. […] it’s not a silver bullet.” (MAGAZINE by Cointelegraph)
🧑⚖️ The SEC:
It’s been busy dropping lawsuits. Lots and lots of dropped lawsuits. This week alone, Uniswap, Robinhood, Coinbase, Gemini, and OpenSea all breathed a sigh of relief. (Coindesk, CNBC, Reuters, @WatcherGuru, Bloomberg Tax). Plus, Is the SEC About to Reverse its Position on Howey? A group of lawyers made the case to re-interpret how securities laws apply to crypto before the SEC Crypto Task Force (Unchained). Is the industry finally getting the regulation that we’ve been so desperately asking for? At the very least, the clarity of direction is there.
📜 All of the US State Bitcoin Reserve Bills we’ve been sharing:
Last month, it seemed like every week we had multiple links to share about US states and Bitcoin reserve bills. Not so fast though. “Five states have so far blocked Bitcoin reserve bills, stalling efforts to integrate digital assets into public finance” (Decrypt). Not in Oklahoma though (CryptoSlate). Or Texas (@WatcherGuru).
🌱 The One Thing Holding ReFi Back in Latin America:
Tereza Bizkova questioned why ReFi hasn't been more successful in the region despite a clear need for ecological and social regeneration, while eloquently illustrating “the fundamental gap between the technology being built and the communities it’s meant to serve” (CARBON Copy).
