gm gm,
wen regulation? Right?! For people trying to build things the “right way,” this keeps coming up. Goverments… well, they’re all over the place. And in the US, it’s straight up confusing. The lack of clarity was made abundantly clear this week when Coinbase, largely seen as a model of by-the-book building, received a Wells notice from the SEC. Coinbase has promised to defend itself in court. Bright side (?): absent legislation from Congress, a high profile court case like this could be as close to regulatory clarity as we’re going to get. If this is the best we can do, so be it; innovators want and need guidelines.
Speaking of regulations: now that the EU Parliament has passed some, they’re thinking about making their own blockchain, and Nigeria’s President-elect is talking about how to use blockchain in the country’s financial sector. Read about it below.
Add to this, Balaji’s claim that Bitcoin will hit $1M in 90 days as hyperinflation takes over, and people realize that the banks have no money?! One might agree, one might call it a self-fulfilling prophecy that leads to a bank run post the SVB crisis, and there are others who just want to ignore this altogether. We are following along as well, it’s hard not to…
*And* be sure to scroll to the end for an awesome new free grant platform that connects grantees to grantors and their funding opportunities.
