gm gm,
The US Presidential debate happened earlier this week, and… neither candidate mentioned cryptocurrency. TBH we didn’t find this surprising at all, but apparently lots of crypto die-hards still felt left out. The fact of the matter is, most Americans don’t care about crypto. And that’s ok right now.
This is such a young industry. Real world use cases (we love a good one) are scarce. Americans are privileged enough that access to capital and financial systems are NOT on the top of our mind everyday.
It’s a reminder of why we started this newsletter and continue to curate it week-by-week. Most people are, at best, unaware of the potential of Web3 to change the world — their world! — for the better.
If someone in your life is one of “most people"… send them 🌍 This Week in Web3forGood. And in the meantime, let’s keep building a better world.
WAGMI (we are going to make an impact!)

🔍TLDR: Staking (crypto)
New to Web3? Welcome! TLDR is where we offer a simplifed explanation of a term used often in this newsletter. If there's anything you're curious about, reply and let us know.
Staking cryptocurrency is a simple way to earn rewards while supporting the network those coins belong to. Instead of just holding crypto, staking allows a user to put it to work by locking it up. In return, they are rewarded with more tokens. It’s all part of something called "proof of stake," which is a system used by certain cryptocurrencies, like Ethereum, to process and verify transactions without needing tons of energy (like Bitcoin’s proof of work system).
When a user stakes their crypto, they’re telling the network that they’re all in and helping it run smoothly. Their coins are temporarily locked up in a special wallet, and in exchange, they earn rewards over time. The more a user stakes, and the longer they do it, the more rewards they can rack up. It’s a bit like earning interest in a savings account, but with crypto.
Of course, staking isn't without risks. Coins are locked up for a set period, meaning they can’t be touched until that time is up. Plus, the value of the cryptocurrency can fluctuate, so there’s a chance the price could drop. But for many people, staking is a fun and rewarding way to make their crypto work for them while helping keep the network secure.
TLDR: Staking cryptocurrency lets anyone earn rewards by locking up their crypto to support the network, kind of like earning interest on their crypto savings.
