It’s an honor to be a part of this community and tell the world what you’re working on. There would be no Web3ForGood newsletter without you - You inspire us everyday!
Notably, compared to some of the other public goods funding rounds we’ve been a part of, this RetroPGF round felt a lot more… chill? That’s a good thing. It means we’re all starting to figure out how to do this public goods funding thing.
wen mass adoption?
WAGMI (we are going to make an impact!)

🔍TLDR: Decentralized Governance
New to Web3? Welcome! TLDR is where we offer a simplifed explanation of a term used often in this newsletter. If there's anything you're curious about, reply and let us know.
Today’s topic: Decentralized Governance
Imagine a world where no single entity holds all the power, and everyone gets a say. That’s the beauty of decentralized governance on the blockchain. Let’s break it down. Blockchain is a digital ledger that keeps track of transactions across many computers, making the info secure and unchangeable. Picture it as a chain of blocks, with each block holding some data, all linked together in a secure chain.
Now, when we talk about decentralized governance, we mean that instead of one central authority calling the shots, control is spread out among all users. It’s like a giant digital democracy where everyone has a voice. Decisions about the network are made collectively, thanks to tools like consensus mechanisms and smart contracts. These smart contracts are self-executing agreements written in code that automatically enforce the rules agreed upon by the network’s participants.
One of the coolest things about decentralized governance is the transparency. Every transaction and decision is recorded on the blockchain, so nothing is hidden. Plus, because the information is spread out across the network, it’s super secure and hard for hackers to mess with. Anyone who holds the network’s tokens can join in the decision-making process, usually by voting on proposals either directly on the blockchain (on-chain voting) or off the blockchain (off-chain voting) but still recorded for everyone to see.
There are some amazing benefits to this system. For starters, it’s democratic. Power isn’t concentrated in the hands of a few, but shared among all users. This can lead to more innovative solutions since everyone can propose and vote on new ideas. It also reduces corruption because everything is transparent and recorded. However, there are challenges too, like coordinating a large number of participants and understanding the technical stuff involved. But with real-world examples like Bitcoin and Ethereum showing us how it’s done, and the rise of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), the future of decentralized governance is bright and exciting.
To summarize: decentralized governance on the blockchain is shaking things up by making control more democratic and transparent. While it has its challenges, the benefits are huge, and the potential for innovation is great. So, if you’re into fairness, security, and being part of a digital revolution, decentralized governance is definitely something to be excited about.
